It's a well known fact that blogs are the website of choice for a rapid exposure of any online business in organic listings.
But with just a few principles you can have your blog even better search engine optimized. Here are the basic four:
1. Search Engine friendly Site Structure
The main feature a website, especially blogs, must possess is rapid access to content for both visitors and SEs.
And this is accomplished by reducing the number of clicks from the home page to each content page.
After getting readers to your blog, extend their stay with links embedded in the text body pointing to related posts and having installed the "related posts" plugin.
With a coherent internal linking structure your site gains overall floatability in organic listings and also enjoys more appointed trust from the search engine thanks to its enhanced accessibility.
Categorize your website with keywords best reflecting your niche market. Over time as you reinforce your SERPs position you'll start ranking for such keywords, making your blog a dependable go-to resource for informational content, reviews and buying.
Keep in mind though, not to crisscross tagging names with category names, respectively if you have a category named "SEO for blogs" don't tag content with the same depiction.
2. Link Out to Related Blogs and Build Backlinks
A sure way of gaining Search Engine's trust is to employ an open policy when it comes to referring quality related websites. And if you worry about loosing PR, don't be.
Google disregards websites with clear indicators of PageRank sculpting such as having only inbound links with no referencing to other theme related websites/subjects.
And when linking out do so with dofollow links. Nofollow links, originally created to discourage spam, are presently disregarded by important SEs like Yahoo and MSN.
Blog commenting, guest posting and massive article submission is a god place to start creating back links of your own. Also supplement them with some directory submissions. Note that the lower the acceptance rate the valuable the link is for your blog's link network.
3. Stay Away From Duplicate Content
As with the development of a large number of SEO plugins that handle all the optimization for you with a push of button, on-site duplicate content has largely stopped being a problem, so your remaining blogging priorities are: 1) crafting good content on a regular basis and 2) promote it through extensive link building.
Another problem poses content scrapers that swipe content out of your own site and post it on their usually mediocre websites built for Adsense advertising.
To actually profit for being rubbed of content, use absolute links to reference past work on your blog. This way the links remain active when published on other domains and if indexed, the grow your link network.
4. Generate XML Sitemaps
An XML sitemap is a list of URLs for all of your indexed pages and tag names that basically tells Google when your blog receives new content. This is a great asset compared to static websites where you have to wait in line until SEs visit it.
